What a typical session looks like
09:15 – 09:30 Children and parents arrive, they are welcomed by staff and the children are encouraged to find their names to put on their pegs with their bags and coats. Parents have the opportunity to share any new information about the children, notes about children are written down and shared with the whole team (if appropriate).
09:30 – 09:40 Children and staff gather for registration.
09:40 – 11:40 Free play. The children are encouraged to explore the activities and space available to them. They are encouraged to select their own toys to play with. Adult led activities (linked to the 7 areas of learning) will be planned and made available each day. The outdoor play area is accessible every day, plus planned use of the amazing space and field around us. (weather dependent) The children are allowed to come and go as they please but have adults observing them to make sure they are safe. During this time the children can come and have a snack with some of their peers and an adult to encourage social communication, interpersonal skills and healthy eating. The children will be offered a drink of milk or water and a variety of fruit and vegetable snacks.
11:40 – 11:55 Tidy up time. We encourage everybody to help tidy toys away.
11:55 – 12:15 Circle time. All staff and children come together at the end of the session to share an activity. This might be singing, story time, playing with instruments, learning the days of the week or discussion about the day. We also celebrate birthdays.
12:15 Home time. Parents come to collect the children. OR handwashing and toileting ready for lunch time. The children eat their lunch they have bought from home. An opportunity for them to sit together and extend their social interaction learning, speaking, listening and attention and sharing ideas to extend conversational skills.
1:00 – 2:45 An afternoon of exploring outside in the local area.
